Sunday, August 21, 2016, Kuala Lumpur: –  Challenges Buddy Day celebration  was held for the 2nd time in celebration of friendship and inclusion – a day of camaraderie and inclusive fun for people with and without disabilities, in conjunction with International Friendship Day 2016.

The Run for Friendship and Walk for Inclusion, which took place on Sunday, August 21st 2016 at Dataran DBKL, Jalan Raja Laut; saw runners cover a distance of 7km along some of KL’s memorable landmarks.

The men and women’s team from KL Dragons joined the buddy walk  alongside members of the wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby teams.

Mary Chen, Chairperson for Challenges Buddy Day – Run and Walk for Friendship 2016 said, “We are delighted that KL Dragons has gracefully taken part in this challenge in support of our work.  Challenges Buddy Day – Run and Walk for Friendship 2016 is a fantastic event and it’s in its second year. We hope to make this an annual event in Malaysia.” .

They were also joined by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia and wife as well as members from the Malaysian Federation of the Deaf, malaysian Association for the Blind , Cheshire Home Selangor and Damai Disabled Person Association Malaysia.

This event seeks to raise awareness and participation of 1000 to highlight inclusive sports and fitness as a means of promoting healthy lifestyle for  all Malaysians, irrespective of age, gender and ability. It is a great way to celebrate your friend, your buddy on this day , by running or walking with your buddy.


A group of college students from Brickfields Asia College  create a special volunteering project in bringing blind participants and buddying them for the walk. 100 buddy club members (fomprising students with and without disabilities) from 30 schools in Klang Valley and Putrajaya with special education classes also joined in, entertained by members from the Malaysian Ukelele Society. The participants were also entertained by Jom Buskers, a four man inclusive band  comprising two sighted and two blind musicians. It was truly a day of music , fun , fitness and social inclusion.

With the Paralympics set to take place next in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil after the Olympics ; it is a good opportunity to also celebrate the Games which is built on friendship, solidarity and fairplay.

In line with Rio 2016 motto  to promote transformation and create a better world for all, we invite you to Run, walk, skip, hop or dance your way for friendship and inclusion around Buddy Day 2016!

The Challenges Buddy Day Celebration for participants continued at Dataran DBKL with health screening and games conducted by event partners. Followed by lucky draws with prizes  by sponsors including  OYO Rooms and Arogya Holistic Centre. The KL Dragons also contributed  a signed basketball  for the lucky draw.
